Uvaggio’s Next Wine Trip

Uvaggio Wine Bar would like to invite you on a can’t miss dream vacation. I’d like to say it’s a once in a lifetime trip but we are planning on hosting these travels at least twice a year. So grab your bags and say Ciao as we are heading to Italy for a week of wine tasting, world class cuisine, truffle hunting, cooking classes and the most scenic vineyards in all the land. On top of all this harvesting and wine picking will be in full swing so at some wineries we will be able to take part in the work. (Just enough to get a taste, not to hurt us). It will also be truffle season so we will be partaking in the best Piedmont has to offer.

Our trip will commence on Sunday, September 20 when our driver will pick us up at the Turin airport to deliver us to our first stop and home for the next 3 nights Boroli Vineyards in La Morra, Barolo a small commune in Piedmont. For the next few days you will awaken to overlook the most picturesque hills in Italy with the French Alps as your backdrop. And guess what, Boroli is also home to a Michelin 1 star restaurant Locanda del Pilone where we will dine our first night over Boroli wines and regional cuisine. Over the next days we will voyage to Famiglia Marrone where we will barrel sample with winemaker and third generation owner Denise Marrone. We will then participate in a cooking school of Piedmont classics and make our own lunch. To finish such a hectic day we should go for a walk. And since we’re walking why don’t we just go for a truffle hunt. The evening we will spend some free time in the beautifully quaint town of Alba which is 5 kilometers from our stay. On Tuesday we will visit 2 more wineries (Paolo Scavino and Marchesi di Gresy) and enjoy sightseeing in the town of Serralunga d’Alba, where we can visit the ancient castle the town is built around. I’m not saying it’s the coolest castle ever (because there are some really cool castles), but the other castles are not also home to one of the oldest and best wine bars in the world. Lunch anyone? That evening we will pay a visit to Marchesi di Gresy winery for a tasting with their owner and winemaker.

Wednesday morning up and at em as our driver is taking us to Tuscany. We will break the drive up with a small lunch on the way to our home for the next 3 days Badia a Coltibuono in the small province of Gaiole in Chianti. A 1000 years old abbey that houses the winery, restaurant and rooms will be our home. You will have access to the pool, walking gardens, winery and olive orchards. We will enjoy a vertical tasting with the owner and guided tour through the abbey. Our next day will be spent at Selvapiana, one of the greatest Chianti producers in the region. The owners will take us through barrels, older wines and a 4 course lunch in the vineyards. That evening we’ll stroll some of the local small towns for shopping, and of course more food and wine. Friday on our final full day in Tuscany we will voyage to Montalcino, home of some of the greatest wines in the world and visit Vitanza. Here we will sample all wines produced and make pizza in Rosalba and Guido’s pizza oven. Not to be outdone we will visit Mario Bollag that evening at Terrasole winery also in Montalcino where he will entertain us and prepare dinner at the winery.

Saturday we will drop everyone in Florence at our final stop a centrally located hotel in the city. Feel free to enjoy all the city has to offer and we will arrange for everyone to get to the airport on Sunday. Or of course extend your trip before or after the Uvaggio tour. All in all we will visit no less than 8 world class wineries where we will have “backdoor access”. Enjoy 2 completely different cooking classes, dine at a Michelin starred restaurant, go truffle hunting and break bread and share wine with some of the greatest winemakers and winery owners in Italy and the world. All breakfast is included, as well as most lunches and dinners (there are a few meals you will be responsible for). Tastings are included, as is all transportation (airfare not included) and housing. As always I will be your host throughout the week and contact for any and everything. Our driver is a friend who is also bilingual and will remain with us the entire stay.

Please email me direct for all questions and reservations. We are only accepting 12 spots on this trip so please act fast. Cost is $3750 for non-wine club members and $3200 for members. Half payment is due by July 31st and the rest by September 1st. Salud and grazie!
